Indeed Nanook - the negativity I was referring to was that which is born from confusion between banner exchanges and actual 'paid-to-surf' traffic purchasing.

Its a sad fact that when it comes to the internet there are a heck of a lot of dishonest folks out there, and I absolutely agree that this spills over into the world of banner exchanges as well as many other areas, which just makes researching which services to use even more important.

There is a reason other webmasters have given negative reviews, there are a lot out there that are just plain dishonest, promising say a 4:3 ratio but delivering a 20:1 ratio, or that let you build up credits but don't rotate your ads in fast enough to use them, or that sit on your ad waiting for approval forever, while their ads display on your site. In my experience the dishonest banner exchange sites outnumber the honest ones about 10:1.

Very good overview - i've had a lot of negative comments from other webmasters about banner exchange services, mostly because they confuse them with pay-to-surf schemes or some form of automated traffic/paying for traffic.

Banner exchanges are probably the best way of generating legitimate arcade traffic
